Casio CTK-710 Keyboard

It is a nice keyboard of 5/8 octaves, no pitch bend and with a very basic tones and rythm bank. Indeed a ugly, cheap instrument but with a very good reason to have: you can plug in via USB to your computer 'coz it support GM2 and thanks to this we can have a master keyboard and never more to use these terrible native sounds.

It works perfectly on Windows XP, XP64x -no support-, Vista and using a special plug-in, on Mac OS X 10.5.x. Well, in my case I use this in additon with standalone synthesizers like KORG M1, Wavestation, samplers like EXS24 and vst instruments like String Studio, Kagnagalis, Symphonic Choirs, etc. via Cubase or Sony Acid Pro.

On Windows there's a bit problem: when you try to play using a standalone synth there's a minor delay since we push any key until the sound is played in output, so this plataform doesn't support a live playing, only works for studio records and renders.

On Mac there's no problem!
When we push a key the sound in output is really speed, at the same time indeed! This works perfectly for live playing, so for example, we can play a KORG M1 using our Casio CTK-710. This is the reason why I love this keyboard! MIDI interface is like.. God! XD

What else?
Dunno, I'll keep up making music, this keyboard is one of my main tools I use for my music.

Drum Kit sampling

Since I began to compose music, I've always had the same problem with drum kit selection. At the beginning I used a dr550 samples. After some sessions and records, I tried the "Toontrack Drumkit from Hell" VSTi on Cubase which allow to work with midi tracks but really it didn't like me. Very simple and flat sounds.

For my "Belowe Daal" album, I used samples from there and here, it was a mix from different stuff. The result was regular. I did not like because, I had to secuence in Sony Acid each track: bass drum, snare, toms, etc and that was very exhausting for me. Midi track base was at final unsuitable.

Now working with EXS24 sampler from Logic in Mac Os X I had a nice idea: I got a real drum kit from a friend and I recorded individual sounds in my studio: Mapex bass drum and air and floor toms, Black Panther snare, Zidjian and Sabian crash cymbals and hi hat. The result has been really really good. Sounds has been sampled and Logic's EXS24 allows me to work with midi tracks and a master keyboard. For my upcoming new album, I'll use that stuff. =)

See you all!

The Folkatz project

Well, among a lot of ideas I have, currently I got a new one, due I've been composing new material and playing with a child, he asked me if my cats had helped to me to play that music I did.. so I had a nice but so crazy idea...

At the moment I'm polishing my abilities for digital animation and I think that project will be ready in at least one year. I know it's a lot of time but I really want to do things well done so I'll take the time I need.

The music isn't a problem 'coz I already have the 'soundtrack' for the first animation. It come from a folk metal song I composed some weeks ago, so I have to focus in chars designing, storyboarding and stuff related.

Wish me luck!
